A new hard drive not only gives your computer more storage, it can speed it up. All hard drives slow down dramatically as they fill up - a drive that is nearly full can be performing at only half the speed it was new (it's geometry - the inner tracks of the platter are shorter and can't pass as much data per revolution). A new larger hard drive will get your data back out to the fastest (outer) tracks of the drive, and restore some speed. The latest model high areal density drives have exeptionally good performance. Call us for a recommendation for your machine.

Consider upgrading hard drives in your computer on a scheduled basis -- every 1 to 2 years0 -- before they break down. That way you always have a fast performing drive, under warranty. You can use the previous drive in one of our external enclosures as a backup drive or for transporting data.

An external drive or a network attached sotrage (NAS) drive are the fastest and most convenient ways to back up your data. Owners of Apple's OSX Leopard have TimeMachine software for making backups, which will use a large drive. Here's some other shareware drive backup and cloning software for Mac and software for Windows to help out.
