Please verify your machine model before ordering.

If you go to the Apple Menu "About this Mac.. > More Information." it will tell you the model year of the machine. In System Profile, you can find he Apple ID number (like MacBook5,5) Please use that information to select a product below, and also include this information on the Comments area of your order form.

Mounting Hardware

MacPro tower and iMac 2.5 inch drive installation caddy
in order to fit the SATA backplane of the MacPro chassis, or the SATA connectors of the iMac 3.5 inch dribe bay, a 2.5 inch SSD drive has to have a specialized caddy which places the SATA power and data connectors in exactly the correct position.

  • IcyDock Caddy (plastic)
  • IcyDock Air Caddy (metal)

Mac Mini Second hard drive (2.5 inch SATA SSD or hard drive)

MacMini machines from 2011 and newer have room for two 2.5 inch hard drives or SSD drives, but only the Server models of Mini come with the mounting hardware and SATA ribbon cable for connecting the drive.

MacMini, iMac, MacBook and MacBook Pro Optical drive replacement caddy for 2.5inch drives

You can install an SSD in the hard drive bay of a MacBook or MacBook Pro that comes with a DVD drive, and then install the existing hard drive (or a new one) in place of the stock DVD Optical drive. This requires a bracket correctly sized to both hold the 2.5 inch drive in the bay, and to provide connection to the slimline optical SATA connector in the machine. (older MacBook Pros used a PATA optical drive, and there are special brackets for them)

MacBook replacement SATA Ribbon Cable

We have seen a rash of spontaneous failures of the SATA ribbon cable that lies under the hard drive in MacBook and MacBook Pro machines, especially the 13 inch model. We suspect that the cause is heat related. The symptoms are the same as what you would expect from a failing hard drive - errors reading or writing, and eventual total failure. This cable is quite fragile but it can be replaced. It is critial to match the number from the Apple cable with the replacement as there are several, mutually incompatible designs. Once you have removed the suspect cable, look for the part number printed on the flat underside of the ribbon cable, such as "821-1226-A" or "821-1198-A". Please provide confirmation of this number with your order.

  • MacBook Pro 15" A1286 2009/2010/2011 Hard Drive Ribbon Cable w/ HD Bracket Holder 821-0989-A
  • MacBook Pro 13" A1278 Mid-2011 Hard Drive Ribbon Cable w/ HD Holder Bracket 821-1226-A

For most Macs, you will need a Philips #00 screwdriver to open the case.

For many 13" MacBook Pros, you need a Tri-Wing driver for the battery retention screws.

For MacBook and MacBook Pro hard drive replacement, you need a Torx #6 (T6) - a six pointed star.

For iMac internal upgrades, you will need a Torx T8 screwdriver for the LCD panel retention screws.

For iPhones, you usually need a Pentalobe 0.8 or 1.2 (five pointed star)

We carry both kits and individual tools

Special order

We can get repair parts such as LCD screens, internal power supplies and fans for many models. These are on a special order basis, and require a careful identification of the model and the exact part required. Special order parts require prepayment and are not returnable or cancellable after the order is placed.

In general, logic boards, while available, are too expensive to be worth replacing on older Macs.
